Is doing things right… pointless?

I recently was going through social media and came across the page of an old classmate who I’d known from primary school, all the way to college. I never really got along with her because our morals and priorities were always complete oposite, I was a shy, introverted people pleaser, and she was the loud, extroverted mean girl.

As I was curiously scrolling through her page I couldn’t help but ask myself, why is it that sometimes the meanest, most irresponsible and all around worst people are the ones who are seemingly “succeeding” and why are the ones that try to play by the rules and try to always keep it together the ones that are most often “stuck” or just lack the same opportunities, is it even worth it?.

You try to do things right — you show up, follow the rules, stay kind, put your heart into what you do. Not because you expect rewards, but because it’s just who you are. And yet, there comes a moment — and if you’re reading this, maybe you’ve already had it — when all of that starts to feel… pointless.

Because while you were working hard, others were skipping steps.

While you were staying up late to study, they were partying.

While you were building character, they were building contacts — or just relying on good looks.

And somehow, they ended up with the job, the opportunity, the applause.

And you?

You’re left wondering what you did wrong.

You think, “Where’s the karma in all this?”

Wasn’t the universe supposed to reward the good-hearted?

Wasn’t effort supposed to count for something?

It feels unfair.

It feels like being a good person is a waste of time, I know this feeling has clouded over me many times before. You ask yourself, is being a bad person all it takes? How are they getting away with this?.

But here’s the hard truth: life isn’t fair. It never was.

Still, that doesn’t mean you’ve lost.

Because even if it’s not always obvious, goodness leaves a mark.

Real kindness, integrity, effort — they build something deep. Something unshakable.

People who succeed by faking it or taking shortcuts may shine brightly for a while, but that kind of light burns out fast. When the noise fades, they’re left with whatever is real inside them — and more often than not, there’s not much there.

You, on the other hand, are building something solid.

It might be slower (and it feels like it’s never gonna come). It might be quieter. But it’s real.

And that kind of success? It lasts.

This world needs people like you.

People who keep going even when it’s hard.

Who stay soft in a world that can be cold.

Who don’t lose themselves just to get ahead.

Maybe you don’t have all the connections, the luck, the spotlight.

But you’ve got something money and privilege can’t buy: a life lived with intention and heart.

And that — even if it takes time — will bloom.

So i guess all I wanted to say with this post is that, if like me, you’re tired, frustrated, lost — I get it.

Take a breath. Cry if you need to. But please, don’t give up on being you.

Because when it all comes down to it, you won’t regret being a good person.

You’ll be proud that you stayed true to yourself.

And that’s worth more than any shortcut success.

Keep going.

Your moment is coming.

And when it does — it’ll be real. It’ll be yours. 🩶
